Aedes.ACM is a software for the analysis of local interventions on masonry walls , compliant with the National Technical Regulations (DM 17.1.2018 and related Circular 2019, with related documents) and Regional (2010 Guidelines of the Tuscany Region; Opinion of the Technical Committee Scientifico, 2012, of the Emilia Romagna Region).
It is possible to analyze various types of intervention , both with the insertion of reinforced concrete and/or steel hoop frames in the wall spaces, and with other techniques such as the creation of reinforced plaster. Multiple interventions can be combined with each other, for example a steel frame associated with reinforcement with reinforced plaster on the adjacent masonry males.

The safety check is conducted considering the wall as a whole, making a comparison between the Current State and the Design State based on:
stiffness, resistance (ultimate force), displacement capacity at the ultimate limit state SLV and SLD serviceability, dissipated energy .
It is thus possible to classify the intervention as local repair, improvement or seismic adaptation , consistently with the regulatory provisions on existing buildings.
As with all Aedes software, the calculation parameters are under the complete control of the designer.
The ACM documentation includes validation procedures, through comparisons between manual calculations and the results of software processing.

Fausto Giovannardi, former Director of the prestigious magazine ‘Ingegneria Sismica’: “(…) we must recognize that the awareness has grown that in a country like Italy, which has the fortunate to have an enormous heritage of ancient villages and historic centres, which is however subject to recurrent earthquakes, the future of safety lies largely in the ability to intervene on the existing building heritage, with criteria, ability and intelligence. In this logic the role of “local interventions”, introduced with the new regulations, takes on great importance, in addition to those of seismic improvement and adaptation, already present in the Ministerial Decree 16.1.1996.
New concepts have been introduced, such as “levels of knowledge”, “confidence factors”, and above all the “safety assessment” which must accompany every intervention on the building , and in addition to the resistance checks, those on stiffness and ductility , which must not vary significantly.
A new opening in a main wall or its movement is no longer, rightly, an ordinary operation, and requires a qualified project which is not just a justifying calculation, but rather analysis, study, knowledge .
Help in this sense comes from Francesco Pugi’s works on masonry buildings. Thoughtful and in-depth books and calculation programs, now indispensable to help tackle and resolve the analysis of complex problems, without forgetting the construction site, the true “model” in which all knowledge is concretized.”
