AlgoMesh is a software tool providing implementations of two complementary algorithms for generation of unstructured triangular and Voronoi grids. It incorporates a comprehensive, easy-to-use graphical user interface (GUI) to assist in the model-building process. AlgoMesh’s primary focus as a model-building tool is producing input files for MODFLOW-USG, MODFLOW 6 and HydroGeoSphere™ simulations. However, its two-dimensional grid generation capabilities are quite general and it may be used as a powerful standalone mesh generator for any purpose. The following sections of this guide present a summary of the grid generation capabilities of AlgoMesh and its user interface functionality.

AUTOMATED GEOMETRY CLEAN-UP
Minimize time spent manually pre-processing. AlgoMesh 2 can clean up areas of tight geometry for you automatically, for a clean, efficient mesh without over-refinement.

Perform optimization-based mesh generation in less time thanks to numerous performance improvements and improved default meshing settings.
MORE MESH AND MODEL EXPORTS
Broaden your modeling options, with full model exports to MODFLOW 6 now available, plus new mesh exports to TOUGH2 MESH, 2D and 3D FEM (.fem), and 2D flexible mesh (.mesh) file formats.
Load GIS raster files directly into AlgoMesh projects
Useful for visualization (e.g. base maps) and model variable mapping (e.g. elevation grids).
Mesh quality analysis tool
Inspect and compare relative mesh cell quality according to several built-in quality metrics. Produce histograms, rasters and shapefiles containing computed mesh cell quality data.
Automatically fix concave cells
Cells that are concave due to complex no-split and no-refine input geometry may optionally be divided into multiple convex cells automatically, ensuring robust convex-only meshes for use with particle tracking software.
Export to GIS
Spline sets and property polygon sets stored in an AlgoMesh project may be exported to GIS vector files (e.g. shapefile).
Induce Well Geometry at Points tool
Generate exact hexagonal geometry at specified points.
Easier CSV mapping
Improvements have been made to CSV property tables, including the use of relative file paths, and layer and stress period range mapping.
Export log
A model export window and export logging system makes it easy to see detailed progress of file exports for large models as they run.
IBOUND now available
as a mappable variable for MODFLOW-USG models, allowing cells to be deactivated without altering the 3D model grid.
Direct select by index
Select individual Voronoi cells, triangular nodes and triangular elements directly by index, to assist in model troubleshooting.
