ESI Groundwater Vistas, a software used to simulate groundwater flow and solute transport in aquifer systems. This software provides a graphical interface for building, running and analyzing numerical flow models based on USGS e MODFLOW, MODPATHMT3D and related packages. Using a numerical model to solve a groundwater problem is a creative process. There are various techniques that can be used to solve the same problem, and each modeler has developed preferred methods for implementing model design.
ESI Groundwater Vistas facilitates the use of complex 3D groundwater models through a flexible user interface that allows the modeler to create a model in a variety of ways. However, no software package can be completely flexible, and GV is no exception. There are several important concepts and assumptions in GV that affect how a groundwater model is constructed. There are two important files that GV uses to define each problem. These files include a GV input file (hereafter called a grid file) and a digitized map file. The grid file is an actual input file for GV. This file stores all finite difference data in a model-independent format. Vista files use the “.gwv” file extension. The GWV file is a binary format that cannot be edited outside of the software.
