MSC ODYSSEE CAE is the simulation process and data management (SPDM) core of the Hexagon ODYSSEE platform. It is a cloud-native application designed to manage the entire lifecycle of computer-aided engineering (CAE) data—from input files, solver runs, and results to reports and decisions. It goes beyond simple data storage by providing tools to automate simulation workflows, enforce best practices, manage job execution on HPC resources (cloud or on-premises), and provide traceability and collaboration across distributed engineering teams. It acts as the central nervous system for a modern, scalable simulation practice, creating a “digital thread” that links design, simulation, and validation data.
It addresses the critical enterprise challenge of managing the explosion of simulation data and processes in a structured, efficient, and secure manner.
Primary Users: CAE Managers, Simulation Analysts, Process Engineers, and IT in manufacturing organizations who need to manage, automate, and scale their simulation processes and data across the enterprise.
ODYSSEE CAE provides a centralized, process-aware environment for simulation teams.
Centralized CAE Data Repository:
Unified Data Model: Stores and manages all simulation artifacts—CAD, meshes, input decks, result files, reports, and images—in a structured, searchable database with full version control.
Project & Context Management: Organize data by project, component, analysis type, or program, making it easy to find and reuse data.
Simulation Process Automation (SPA):
Workflow Designer: Create automated, template-based simulation workflows (e.g., “Run NVH analysis”) that standardize processes, reduce errors, and capture tribal knowledge.
Parameterization & Design Exploration: Link workflows to parameterized CAD/models to automate design of experiments (DOE) and optimization studies.
High-Performance Computing (HPC) Orchestration:
Unified Job Management: Submit, monitor, and manage simulation jobs from within the platform to a mix of on-premises HPC clusters, private cloud, or public cloud (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) resources.
Intelligent Scheduling & Cost Management: Optimize queue scheduling and cloud compute spending.
Collaboration & Decision Support:
Web-Based Visualization & Reporting: View standard result plots, 3D models (via a web viewer), and auto-generated reports directly in the browser without needing native CAE software.
Review & Approval Workflows: Facilitate collaboration with markups, comments, and electronic sign-offs on simulation results.
Integration & Connectivity:
CAE Tool Integration: Connectors for major solvers (MSC Nastran, Adams, Marc, Actran, Simcenter, Abaqus, Ansys) and pre-processors.
PLM/ALM Connectivity: Bi-directional links with PLM systems (Teamcenter, Windchill) and requirements management tools to align simulation with product lifecycle.
API-First Platform: Extensive REST APIs for custom integrations and extending functionality.
As a SaaS platform, client-side requirements are minimal.
Client/User Requirements:
A modern web browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari) with a stable internet connection.
For integration with on-premises resources, a small ODYSSEE Agent may be installed on a local server/jump host. This agent has minimal OS requirements (Windows/Linux).
Platform/Server Side: Entirely managed by Hexagon on their cloud infrastructure for the SaaS offering. For private deployments, Hexagon provides specifications for Kubernetes or VM-based infrastructure.
